A New Season of Service: Pasadena Women's Club Partners with Friends In Deed
At Pasadena Women's Club, service to our community has always been at the heart of who we are. That's why we're so excited to announce our newest initiative: a partnership with Friends In Deed, a Pasadena institution that has been caring for our neighbors experiencing homelessness and hardship since 1894.
Who Is Friends In Deed?
Friends In Deed is an interfaith nonprofit with a simple but powerful mission: to provide supportive services that meet basic human needs, so that homeless and at-risk neighbors can rebuild their lives with dignity. Their motto, "doing together what we cannot do alone," reflects exactly the kind of community-first spirit we admire and want to support.
Friends In Deed runs several vital programs out of their Pasadena location, including:
The Food Pantry — a market-style pantry that serves hundreds of households each week, letting families choose the foods that fit their needs and preferences
The Women's Room — the only daytime shelter of its kind in the San Gabriel Valley, offering women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness a safe place to rest, shower, do laundry, and simply be treated with respect
Bad Weather Shelter — emergency shelter activated when temperatures drop or storms roll in
Street Outreach & Housing and Eviction Prevention & Rental Assistance — programs that help individuals and families find and keep stable housing
Why We Chose This Partnership
Every member of Pasadena Women's Club calls this city home, and we believe that a club rooted in community should show up for the neighbors who need it most. Friends In Deed's holistic, compassionate approach — meeting people exactly where they are — mirrors the values that have guided our club for generations. Supporting their work felt like a natural next chapter in our own history of civic engagement.
How We're Getting Involved
Our new service project will bring club members together to support Friends In Deed in several hands-on ways:
Food and essentials drives — collecting non-perishable food, toiletries, and other everyday essentials for the Food Pantry
Volunteer days — club members rolling up their sleeves to help sort donations, prepare the Women's Room, and support day-to-day operations
Fundraising efforts — channeling proceeds from upcoming club events directly toward Friends In Deed's programs
Awareness and advocacy — helping spread the word about the resources Friends In Deed offers to anyone in our community who may need them
